Hi thanks for your reply, Shine the husky has been neutered and I am waiting to have Rain spade, our vet said it was best to let her have at least one season before we do as she said it could lower her risk of breast cancer. I am a little surprised that at the age of two she has not yet had a season but my vet seems to think thats quite normal? I agree they cannot be seperated for good after all thats not why we had them. The husky does tend to try and dominate her, I went out with both of them again and they did play to start with and then Shine started curling his lip and going for her ears again. I pulled him away and Rain sat beside me quite calmly. I put Shine back inside the house and stayed with Rain after a few minutes I let Shine back out and they played again. I think I will have to just keep repeating it until Shine gets the message. Saying that Rain has got a pretty nifty right hook and I think her sheer size intimidates Shine. I will forge on and hope for a happy 'peaceful' outcome. Thanks again for your comments.
Kay.

I don't think you should split them up permanently. I have two newfies who often pull on each other's ears, but they are only playing. It is usually Joshua doing the pulling and Ferdie will have a growl or a snarl when he has had enough and Joshua will then leave off. So what happened when your newfie verbally warned off the huskey? Did he stop?

I know nothing about huskies, but often when two dogs appear to be fighting they are in fact only playing. If I were you I would re-introduce them and perhaps separate them when you are not there to supervise.

is the husky a dog or a bitch? If a dog, it might be an idea to get him neutered. He may be just trying establish leadership. To be honest, you cannot afford to have dogs this size not happy with things, can you? And it won't be much fun having to keep them separate forever.

Let me know how you get on.

Completely agree about the clumsiness in general but my boy Ben, was amazingly gentle with my little girl, and was the best baby monitor in the world. My daughter learnt to walk by holding on to his shaggy butt and he never once complained or knocked her over, his patience was amazing.

Enjoy the next 6 months as there is a LOT of hard work ahead when he gets to the teenage years. Its well worth it in the end but make sure you have a sense of humour or he will drive you mad until he reaches 2 1/2 to 3 years when he will again become that darling Newfy we all know and love.

Hi I am totally new to this sight but would deeply appreciate any advice you may be able to give me. I have a two year old bitch newf called rain and a 20 month old husky named shine. Rain is extremely boisterous but not naughty. I noticed a couple of months ago that our male husky was pulling on her ears alot and was almost goading her to fight with him. Rain will only get verbal with him which I am glad of but because I did not like him bullying her I split them up and no longer allow them to be together. Was I wrong to do that because now when I am alone with Rain she has begun to attack me, she has so far bitten me, given me a black eye, I am covered in bruises and the other day she actually lifted me off my feet and carried me around the garden. I must stress that I dont think Rain has suddenly turned I believe that by splitting them up that I may have inadvertently upset her. If anyone knows anything I can do to help her please let me know. I wont give up on her I just really need to work out what is wrong.
Many thanks Kay

Hello,

We will be bringing home our male newf puppy the last week of july. He comes to us from Bo-Irish Farms in Elroy, WI and we have named him Azul.

I'm 36 and we have 3 boys. We recently had to lay our 12 year old German Shepherd dog to rest back in March and decided after
much research to get a Newfoundland. We are happy to find this forum and look forward to learning even more about the breed here.

Hello all,

My female Newf, Cleo is nearly 11 years old and has been in perfect health her entire life. She has, over the last six months, developed progressively weaker legs, to the point this evening where she could barely stand to go out and pee.

She's been taking cod liver oil & Glucosamine sulphate for her joints and recently the vet has put her on Metacam but nothing seems to be working.

She doesn't seem to be in any pain, but she go very distressed trying to get up tonight and I had to give her help. As you can imagine, I'm in bits over this because she's a healthy dog and I hate the thought that she may need to be put down.

The vet's coming tomorrow to examine her, but I thought other Newf owners may be able to suggest something if they have had a similar problem.

Thanks for reading,

Rob Neave

Just to let you know. Coco was PTS last week following 5 months of brave fighting. Her lymphoma returned before finishing chemo and we had to just treat the symptoms in the end. I'm missing her so much.
You can see her picture on here if you want to.
Love you Cokes. x

My Landseer pup is currently cooking inside his mummy! He is due to land on the 11th of June
I am so excited, I have always wanted a big dog. I'm also a little nervous about the huge commitment - with my first dog I was still living with my Dad & he did most of the arranging that comes with a new pup - so I've come here to discuss any puppy worries I have!
