Have a 15 month old Newfie and she is wonderful with children. I watch my neices who are 15 months and 3 years old alot and she is very gentle with them. Loves to chase after them when they are playing. I should of gotten this breed long ago. As a matter of fact will be getting my second one in about 8 weeks.. Am looking forward to it.

Newfies are very gentle dogs but do remember they are very big and clumsey and although may not mean to hurt and hefty paw would knock a toddler over. Having said that they are the most adorable breed ever.

Look on youtube. There are lots of great clips of them playing with children. They are generally regarded as being great with children. I agree with coconut though and wouldn't leave any small children alone unsupervised with these big dogs.

I don't have young children myself, but I am often asked by mothers when I am walking if their youngster can stroke them. They sit as patient as anything and let babies as young as one year cuddle them. They love children, but as said, I would never leave a child alone with these or any other dog.

Completely agree about the clumsiness in general but my boy Ben, was amazingly gentle with my little girl, and was the best baby monitor in the world. My daughter learnt to walk by holding on to his shaggy butt and he never once complained or knocked her over, his patience was amazing.
