My beautiful 4 year old newfie has recently been diagnosed as having multicentric lymphoma. She is at present undergoing chemo for this. We are in week 6 and all is well at the minute, but the chemo is only to treat symptoms and not to cure I'm afraid. Prognosis is about 12 months with chemo so we had to give her a chance. You can see her picture on the photo page.
I'm writing this for 2 reasons really.
1) Please please investigate any lumps or bumps found on your dog. Coco's lumps appeared almost overnight and by day 3 they were all over her body. It really does happen that quickly.
2) Please insure your dog. We have had pet insurance since we had her at 8 weeks but last Sept I let it lapse because they wanted so much per month( increase of 75% since she first started) so I thought I'd shop around for cheaper. Low and behold she developed these lumps before I has chance to restart with another company. Therefore we are having to pay for the chemo ourselves. I would sell my house to make sure she is treated and having quality of life but believe me it is very expensive approx £100 every week. Still she's worth every penny.
She is now being spoilt rotten as you can imagine, but she is still my lovely cuddly bear and we're making the most of what time we have with her.

From personally experience I know only too well the speed in which lymphoma spreads. We lost our 4 year old Newfie to lymphoma, she took ill on xmas eve 2009 and she became so sick so fast that we couldn't give her chemo. We would have done anything to have extra time with her and spoil her but unfortunately it wasn't to be. We said our goodbyes on New Years Eve 2009. Just one week from the onset of symptoms. It is devastating and sad. Give your Dog as much love as possible, my thoughts are with you. I have owned many dogs over the years but this was my first Newf I miss her desperately. I have a new Newf puppy now not as a replacement but because I love the breed so much. She is keeping me very busy but I will never get over my loss of my big black bear..

Just to let you know. Coco was PTS last week following 5 months of brave fighting. Her lymphoma returned before finishing chemo and we had to just treat the symptoms in the end. I'm missing her so much.
You can see her picture on here if you want to.
Love you Cokes. x
